The first step in the commissioning process is to discuss your needs. If logistics permit, I prefer to do this in the actual home where the piece will finally reside. In this first meeting we can discuss your vision, overall dimensions and basic appearance, make some preliminary sketches, and look at some wood samples. Next I will produce some design concept sketches. These two steps may go through a few iterations until we settle on a final concept. At this stage the drawings are "rough" but we are now ready to move on to a final design. I may build a scale model to help facilitate our discussions and refine our design. I will then prepare half scale or full size drawings that will bring out the details. We are now at the final design assuming that we have worked out the material selection.. I will give you a firm price to complete the project and an estimated delivery time. I will generally ask for a 50% deposit when I am ready to begin work on your project.

I will always try to give you an honest projection of when I can deliver your piece of furniture. If my estimate changes, I will let you know immediately. People are often surprised at the amount of time required to complete a piece of furniture once we are past the design phase. By the time I collect all of the materials, build the project, and finish it, even a "simple’ project takes about three weeks. A complete dining room suite would take 3 – 6 months.
